Advanced Collision Investigation – 22 – 10 – 31

This course builds upon the key elements learned in Introduction to Collision Investigation Level II. A thematic approach is used to introduce the student to human factors and time and distance analysis and their specific application within the collision investigation process. This will furnish the students with new skills that will increase their ability to better understand and evaluate the causative factors in the affected the collision. The course will enhance the prior experience, skills and knowledge of those who are involved directly or indirectly in collision investigation. The information will be delivered individually and through work groups conducted in both field and classroom environments.
A thematic approach will be used to introduce the key elements of human factors and time and distance considerations.
Topics will include
- driver perception and response time;
- vision and information processing;
- perception and information processing
- fatigue and the driving function;
- vehicle design;
- time and distance calculations and applications;
- case study analysis;
* Note: A significant portion of this course is dedicated to the mathematics of the time and distance function as well as incorporating the results into the drawing of approximate to scale diagrams
Professionals from industrial or transportation safety, driver training, enforcement, the legal profession and insurance will find this course of particular interest. Successful graduates will:
- gain advanced investigative skills;
- acquire the knowledge that, in combination with other training and/or
- experience, is required to properly identify collision causation issues;
- understand the terminology used in technical collision reports;
- recognize when a deconstructionists may be of assistance in an investigation; and

Certificate of completion based on successful completion of the evaluation process and obtaining a minimum of 75% on the final exam.
