Course Description
Both federal and provincial regulations require that any person involved in the handling, offering for transport or transporting of dangerous goods must be trained and certified by his/her employer. This three-day Instructor’s course provides the material and information necessary to conduct Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) training for drivers. Topics covered include: TDG legislation/regulations & emergency procedures and carrier, driver & shipper responsibilities.
The comprehensive TDG Instructor’s Program is included with the course fee. Developed to set standards to address due diligence, this program is applicable throughout Canada. The Instructor Kit includes the new Instructor’s manual, TDG Act & Regulations with one-year update service, laminated compliance poster, and Student Handbook with certificate, and other related resource material.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, participants will be able to:
- Understand the purpose, structure and functions of Transportation of Dangerous Goods legislation/ regulations;
- Identify legislated carrier, driver, consignor and shipper responsibilities;
- Identify training requirements for personnel involved with the Transportation of Dangerous
- Goods including penalties, definitions, exemptions, nine classes of dangerous goods, how to use Schedule 1 & 3 and use of UN Approved Performance Packaging;
- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of label and placard identification, as well as how to use a dangerous goods handbook and checklists;
- Explain emergency response procedures and contacts;
- Understand when an Emergency Response Action Plan (ERAP) is required; and
- Use the program materials to carry out effective dangerous goods training.
Format
Classroom: Interactive workshop, formal instruction, discussion, practical exercises.

Prerequisites
Prior experience or education in commercial fleet operations, safety and training or regulatory compliance is strongly suggested.
